The Impinj xArray is a fixed infrastructure RFID gateway that combines an RFID reader with antennas to enable always-on, wide-area monitoring for real-time RFID tagged object identification, location, and direction. xArray’s beam-forming antenna array allows wide-area monitoring, delivering full power within a 40-foot diameter when ceiling-mounted at 15 feet high. The xArray can differentiate 52 different antenna beams, allowing for location assignment inside the read zone, and the antennas emit a linear pattern in both horizontal and vertical pathways, allowing for tag reading in any orientation. The reader has been designed to quickly read thousands of tags and differentiate tags of interest from the rest of the field. This device can be set up to work with both wide-area monitoring and portal applications. Impinj has also introduced a powerful tag direction capability that has been demonstrated to be accurate even in challenging real-world scenarios.
The xArray system’s small profile was designed to attach easily into a single tile of a conventional drop ceiling, where it is unobtrusive and able to integrate into any décor, making it both cost-effective and easy to deploy. A tilt sensor, hysteresis feedback, and configurable beacon are included in the xArray to inform users when the system or surroundings requires attention. The xArray uses very little power (to keep expenses down) and is powered by standard PoE’den (IEEE 802.3af), so there’s no need to engage an expensive electrician to set it up. The xArray is also programmed with industry-standard LLRP and Impinj extensions, allowing for maximum code reuse and minimal delays due to learning curves with new APIs.
